I have to admit, I was a little skeptical. Typically, I do not care much for devotional books. Either they are too flowery or too preachy. I have always viewed my devotional time as a sacred time to develop my relationship with Christ. I do not want too many people interfering with that or dictating how it is done.
This book did surprise me and I found it quite refreshing. Janz begins by discussing his own personal struggles. His transparency is genuine and more than easy to relate with. His struggle is the struggle we all have had at some point. Not too many Christians I know are content with their relationship with and knowledge of God. But how many are eager to fix that problem and actually take steps to improve upon that problem?
Alone with God strikes a good balance between philosophy and practicality. You will enjoy the author’s thoughts and consider his proposals. This is a book worthy of your time and consideration.
